Wild Rose Country is a large, pink, potato-leaf tomato variety that excels in sandwiches. This Canadian tomato was bred from the same line as Cowboy (one of my ultimate favourites) and it was named after the home of Karen Olivier, the breeder. In Karen's words:

"Wild Rose Country- beautiful Alberta, Canada . That’s where I’m from and this delicious big pink potato leaf beefsteak is my ode to my forever home in Sturgeon County northwest of Edmonton Alberta. I was raised there on a farm where wild prickly roses grow in every ditch and patch of bush between the pastures and fields of wheat and hay and barley and canola. Does the world need another pink potato leaf beefsteak? I think it needs a Canadian one. Bred on the prairies by this Canadian farm girl. From the same cross that created cowboy, this pink beauty is called. “Wild Rose Country”. It has a lovely texture, A quality interior and its perfect for an incredible tomato sandwich with a tangy rich and not overly sweet flavour. One thick slice on buttered toast will convince you."
