Non-GMO | Saying No To Gmo Seeds

Our seeds are non-GMO, untreated (not covered with fungicides or insecticides) and are open-pollinated varieties. We have signed the Safe Seed Pledge which is a commitment to non-GMO as follows:

“Agriculture and seeds provide the basis upon which our lives depend. We must protect this foundation as a safe and genetically stable source for future generations.

For the benefit of all farmers, gardeners and consumers who want an alternative, we pledge that we do not knowingly buy or sell genetically engineered seeds or plants.

The mechanical transfer of genetic material outside of natural reproductive methods and between genera, families or kingdoms, poses great biological risks as well as economic, political and cultural threats.

We feel that genetically engineered varieties have been insufficiently tested prior to public release. More research and testing are necessary to further assess the potential risks of genetically engineered seeds.”

Locally produced seeds are more tolerant to regional disease and changing weather patterns. Seeds are grown using sustainable practices here in Nova Scotia. You’re supporting a mother and her family, not a corporation.

We don’t sell commercially grown seed, which is often treated with damaging agrochemicals. Open-pollinated and locally adapted seeds are essential elements of regional food security.

Germination | Quality Over Quantity

We offer seeds with germination rates above the Canada Seed Act Standards. Our growers do germination tests and we test them again before packaging. Note that some species have naturally lower germination rates. Contact us if you’d like to know the germination rate of a specific variety.

Seed packets are sold by seed count or by weight and if the harvest was plentiful, we send additional seeds. We don’t sell in bulk. Packets contain what we believe to be adequate for a family garden.

We aim to provide fresh and healthy seeds. Our seeds are stored in a dry, dark and climate-controlled area to prolong their viability. Store your garden seeds in a similar environment.
